AOB 9-81, where we were M60A1 RISE, and had some crews going to Europe on M60A3, and those going to the 82nd ID, M551 Sheridan. Only in 1994 did I go through NET/DET (New Equipment Training/Displaced Equipment Training) for the M1 IP.

Yeah, I was 10-90. Very old school...remember many 'liquid lunches' at the O-Club (Fiddler's Green). Thought we were busted one afternoon when the Armor School Commander walked in...good ol' Col JW Thurman. He kept us there (it was just my 'crew' of 4) telling us stories, buying a couple of rounds, and puffing on his ever present cigar. We got back very late to class...but we had the perfect alibi.
That was an awesome summer...tanks by day, Fiddler's Green for lunch, and off to Phoenix Hill in Louisville for the night cap! Some heady and carefree days. It was interesting time to be at Knox...during the 'Desert Shield' build up. The motor pools would fill with tanks painted in woodland camo pattern one day, suddenly desert beige the next, trains running all night, and suddenly empty motor pools...only to start all over again the next day.
I was a NG officer desperately wanting an AD spot...but it was not to be. Got home late October 1990 and was active duty Navy by April...and spent the next 20 years on submarines. Quite a ride!
