The US should not interfere with the Kurds in their pursuit for independence. Iraq is a failed state, and I am not sure keeping it in one piece will help stabilize it. The Kurds are the only ones that Kept ISIS from taking control of most of Iraq in 2014, as well as Northern Syria. Turkey is a toxic ally and Kurds could prove to be a more stable ally. I am sure the US has their reasons for trying to pressure the Kurds to not vote for independence. The Kurds realized their worth as a regional player when they were the only ones who were able to stand against ISIS and drive them back, and feel they have earned their place as a nation-state in the Middle East.
For the first time, the US and Colonial governments should sit back, watch, and let this play out. We all seen what happens when the west tries to meddle in places it does not fully understand.
