Good luck. I am the commander at my VFW in Huntsville, TX, and you could smell the "old" in the room when I joined. One of my major goals for this year has been to enlist younger members and have come up with four and have a promising supply of many more. How did I do it? Read on. First, I made it a focus (goal) and had everyone commit to it. Second, after discovering the problem (young veterans are too embroiled in transition, starting a family, establishing a career, etc) to have time to waste time, I found a group dedicating to helping veterans dealing with PTSD, addictions, and other issues common to combat veterans recently released from active duty. Third, I and one of my lieutenants, joined them in 12-step meetings, and other group activities to demonstrate our commitment. Fourth, we provided them opportunities to participate in service projects helping veterans in need. Fifth, we made them welcome at our meetings (we also provide access via Zoom online meetings).
