Where is the best place to live in Hawaii?

I am being stationed at fort shafter. Where is the best place to live? I was looking at places in Ewa beach. Is that too far?

Ewa is a bit of a haul, I was stationed at Hickam and lived on base. You may want something a little closer, I had friends that lived in a high rise apartment in Aiea.
