Seriously? Let's put it like this. If you were in a formation for inspection would you be wearing these or do you think that a platoon sergeant, platoon leader, first sergeant or company commander would allow it to fly without telling the troop to go spend some of that clothing reimbursement money and get a new set.
It's the same as someone wearing cook whites to a formation. You stand out and not in a good way. You are going to a school. You need to be dress right dress and squared away from top to bottom. That includes your daily uniform. Go get a new set or two from clothing sales and have them altered nad pressed and ready for Air Assault School.
You want to stand out for the positive, not the negative in any school and trust me, as having taught the Air Assault course, once you are on a particular sergeants radar for a negative, they tend to look more closely. It's a small indicator that the troop does not have what it takes. Remember, you are a specialist, which means that you should be setting the example for the E-1's to E-3's below you to follow. You may one day be leading them and showing up dressed as such is not professional.

I showed up with a mustache, well within regulations. I was gigged for it the first day and told to bring it into regulation, just like the Air Assault 1st Sgt. He was clean shaven. I could have argued the point, but I was a 2LT and Company Grade Officers get special attention anyway, so I shaved that evening.

CPT Lawrence Cable - Yes Sir! I remember my first day as Cadre at the AAS at Ft Belvoir VA, conducted by SFC Anthony Hill. We showed up and were inspected just as if we were undergoing training ourselves. Several of us were in regs as far as haircut, mustaches etc but were gigged and made to dress it up and trim it off. One standard. You didn't meet it you got gigged and dropped to pound out pushups.

CPT Lawrence Cable - I too was a rebel and showed up to Airborne school with a regulation moustache and a high and tight. Before I had finished in processing the moustache had disappeared thanks to a dry shave while standing in line after hearing one of the black hats smoke a troop down the line for the same thing.

CSM Richard StCyr - Ah, the good old days. Air Assault at Campbell was an interesting experience for a young officer (or actually not so young, I was over 30). Any of the Company Grade Infantry Officers were immediately drafted for the student chain of command and you got the please of doing everything first, except eat, rest or being dismissed (of course). Lord help you if you got on the First Sgt's list. And not being in the top third of the class for Infantry Officers would be a fast way to get there. He cut the Aviation guys and the non combat arms types more slack, or at least didn't smoke them if they were meeting standards, just not his standards.
First out the door and last in the chow line is the Airborne/Air Assault way and you will remember it after either school.

I recommend bringing only fully serviceable gear to any school setting.... Especially Airborne or Air Assault where any attention you garner will only be of the negative variety resulting in massive amounts of corrective physical conditioning and other unpleasantries.
