Never gonna happen. It’s such a critical skill and the other services use it as well. If Benning ever shut it down, Bragg would open its own under USASOC or the 82nd

I think they are talking about closing the Benning location. I think they should move to Bragg also.

CPT (Join to see) I know that the Airborne school is there, but it always seemed weird to me that the proponent is at the smallest location while the biggest units are the ones testing new equipment and making new SOPs

I think the School at Fort Benning should be shut down. It should be moved to Fort Bragg and ran by the US Army Advanced Airborne School there. I think the Guard should maintain their MTT version of Pathfinder to help other units but the Army should really work on consolidating resources that are needed at their best locations. Like the article said, the 82nd would fill it up every class. We had an Air Assault School at Bragg that really didn't benefit the units here with readiness. Pathfinder would be a great asset here.

Does anyone understand why service schools-Airborne, Jumpmaster, Pathfinder, Ranger, and sniper are taught at Ft Benning? Its not just a history and lineage issue (although those two do deserve recognition), Ft Benning is the headquarters and proponent for the Infantry, AND associated services schools (mentioned above). Doctrine demands these schools remain close to those who research, develop, and implement changes in said doctrine to prevent extended delays in evaluating current doctrine and submitting changes as needed.

They will only shut it down long enough for the SMEs to ETS or Retire.
Some "Good Idea Fairy (GIF)" who always wanted a "Torch" and never got one just can't see the need for a pathfinder school, and since he never needed one then of course no one else will either and This GIF sees it as a Cost Saving measure that will make a GREAT OER comment.
Then when the art of setting up an LZ or DZ is fading and folks are forgetting how many links...Yet another GIF will say "Hey we should start a Pathfinder School............."
Big Army never learns...
