Just curious as to why other branches are initiating discussions, connecting with, connecting topics to, and/or commenting in this Marine Corps Group.
Is the purpose of this Group to be a place where members of the Marine Corps connect with each other... or is it a place where anyone can discuss the Marines?
For example:
* Should Army and Marines (or components of) consolidate? Started by USN
- General military discussion, not USMC specific.
* How I Let Go Of The Embarrassment I Felt For Having Never Served In Combat: Does this call to you? Started by USA
- General military discussion, not USMC specific.
* Tab Check / Shoulder Check. Started by former USMC, USA
- Marines don't wear tabs... The only thing USMC about this is that it was started by a former Marine. The Conversation is of no relevance to this Group.
* The 4 biggest myths US Marines keep telling themselves: Your thoughts? Started by USA
- A not so well conceived attempt to poke Marines in the eye, under the guise of discussing USMC history -- by a very uninformed RP Admin.
* How is today's Military different than the 80's Military? Started by USA
- General military discussion, not USMC specific.
* What kept your morale up during deployment? Started by USN
- General military discussion, not USMC specific
If the purpose of this Group is to be a place where RP members can connect with members of the Marine Corps, then only USMC specific topics should be discussed here... No offense, but we have no need to discuss Ranger tabs. If you have an other service or general interest topic, it should not be tagged in the Marine Corps Group.
It would be most representative of the Marines if Marines were the ones initiating the topics of discussion and moderating within this Group. That's just my $.02.

Capt Jeff S. I'll drop in from the Army perspective. I don't usually comment on stuff I don't know anything about or that is related specifically to the Marines or another branch of service, but I do enjoy learning and reading what everyone has to say. There are days when even the Marines post some really strange discussions, but that is okay. I believe everyone has. Its just shows that they are human. I think that all the collaboration and discussion on leadership, future employment, professionalism, current events that affect all the services, transition, VA Benefits, etc. affect all of the branches of the service. I like connecting with Marines (active or veterans) and will continue to participate in the discussions if I can bring some value based on my 37 years of service. By the way we all work together on the battlefield especially in logistics. There were many of times that we help each other out when it came to logistics on extended periods of deployment in certain regions of Iraq. Let's just keep on working together, posting what we will, and answering when it’s appropriate. Always being respectful of each other and our perspective service branches. That's my two cents for the morning! Hoorah!

I have no problem with the Army, but in my dealings with the Army, it seemed they always had a problem with us.
The Marine Corps and the Army ARE indeed different. We speak a different language and see things from a very different perspective. I heard one Army guy put it something like this: "The Army is a military branch and the Marine Corps is a cult." I can't say I disagree with that.
The Army takes pride in certain units, and among Marines, we take pride in earning the title Marine. That is special to us and we don't have to call ourselves Special or wear tabs and berets, etc. We all wear the same uniform and don't advertise our MOS, or unit on our uniforms. Less is more...
Whenever I have had to deal with the Army, I was there to do a job. Being used to the Navy environment, I always had to do a little translating to understand the Army and I can't always say I came away impressed. What I found most disappointing was having to deal with attitudes stemming from petty jealousies and interservice rivalry.*
I'm all for collaboration and discussion on topics of leadership, future employment, professionalism, current events that affect all the services, transition, VA Benefits, etc. in the general forums, but not in this group. It should be about Marine specific things. If you want to weigh in, I certainly am not one to turn away 37 years of wisdom and experience and I thank you for your comments -- sincerely.

Is the good SGM looking to stimulate a constructive dialog? Or is he looking to poke an eye and get a reaction? If you want to high five each other and dream of getting rid of the Marines so that you can get the recognition you aren't getting, go ahead and put it on your Army group and have at it.
For us Marines, after awhile it's like watching a bad B-movie rerun for the 50th time... MAJ Carl Ballinger has beat the dead horse to death on this topic and STILL can't let it go.

With the combination of severe budget cuts, the Army growing increasingly more expeditionary and lethal and possibly 'encroaching' on the Marine's territory, will the Marine Corps survive for much longer?Seems crazy, but seems to be a possibility.

MAJ Carl Ballinger - I just saw something you wrote a day or two ago. Perhaps you wrote it months ago and I didn't see it till just recently. I must have missed the date on your comment, but it was one in which you were discussing how the Army was first in to Grenada, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., which grew out of the discussions about the Army doing what the Marines do, which was connected to the discussion about the Marines being absorbed into the Army. It just sounded like an old conversation being rehashed again. If this is something you wrote a long time ago, then my mistake and I apologize. I thought we were done with it and it just seemed like the topic was getting resurrected.

Hi Capt Jeff S.. Part of the confusion stems from people inaccurately tagging posts. Members are not supposed to tags posts to get the maximum number of eyes. Members are supposed to tag posts with tags that are specific to the discussion. All admins have the ability to make our community more organized by editing tagged topics. In fact, tagging a service branch is strongly discouraged.
