Fermilab’s Technical Division is seeking one Electrical Technician II. Under general supervision, the selected candidates will provide moderately complex electromechanical support for an area of assignment, typically an experiment or support group. Depending on the area of assignment, the selected candidate will fabricate, set-up, calibrate, operate, test, repair and modify a variety of moderately complex mechanical-electrical equipment, systems and devices.

You Will

Fabricate, assemble, install and remove a variety of electrical and/or electro-mechanical parts, sub-assemblies, controls and devices for Laboratory projects/equipment based on drawings, diagrams, schematics, and as instructed.
Assist in construction, calibration and assembly of experimental and support equipment.
Prepare and test equipment for operation.
Generate or assist in generating Hazard Analyses when needed.
Write procedures for finished work.
Enter relevant work information into a database and/or personal logbook.
Produce reports as assigned.
Prepare and compile technical data and safety records for equipment in area of assignment.
Perform preventive and standard maintenance of equipment, troubleshooting of problems and repair as needed.
Respond to operational and emergency requirements of the area.
Conduct periodic safety inspections.
Assist with the identification, packaging, control and disposal of chemical and radioactive waste.
Procure and maintain inventories of small parts, supplies, materials and equipment.
Assist in the implementation of design of equipment and systems.
Drive quality in all job aspects.
Assist and may direct the work of lower level technicians. May act as shift supervisor for assigned area/project.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Abide by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, Laboratory policies, procedures and practices pertinent to this position.
We Are Looking For

High School degree (or technical certificate or equivalent) plus 4+ years of relevant work experience
Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 lbs
Must be able to work from ladders and lifts
Must be able to work overtime and be available for emergency call-ins
Must possess a valid drivers license
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to follow written LOTO, safety and operating procedures
Must be able to pass Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH) medical exam
Must possess advanced knowledge of hand and power tools
Possess basic computer skills preferred
Ability to read drawings and schematics preferred
Ability to wire an electrical panel from a connection diagram preferred
Ability to check electrical wiring for errors preferred
Experience with 1 and 3 phase power devices desirable
Theoretical and practical operating principles of electric motors and motor controls desirable
