Job Description

Become a SCADA System Administrator at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job you’ll improve and maintain the critical systems and processes necessary to keep Edison’s 24x7 Operations Center running at peak efficiency. You’ll primarily support real time operators, day ahead schedulers, and energy traders who manage SCE’s $4 billion/year resource portfolio as a Scheduling Coordinator in the California Independent System Operator’s (CAISO) wholesale power markets.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

Provide critical support for SCE’s Generation Management System (GenMS) – used 24x7 by real time operators for command, control, and monitoring of SCE’s energy generation portfolio. Work includes proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, configuring screens, creating/improving HMIs, conducting counterparty resource operating tests, and developing new features based on system needs and operator input.
Initiate process improvements and recommendations for future system design to meet operator needs in the rapidly changing electric utility industry.
Manage changes to internal systems and processes to align with evolving CAISO market policies and operating requirements (principally associated with generation monitoring, communication requirements, and protocols).
Troubleshoot system problems individually or in a team environment with SCE Senior Support personnel, SCE IT, SCE real time operators, external vendors, and external operations support personnel.
Support multiple operational systems including satellite phones, IPC trading phone and recording system, digital radios, external site connections, etc.
Perform user access administrator functions for SCE (issue/manage/retire user accounts and access certificates necessary for SCE, CAISO, and other market systems
Develop, maintain, and deliver training to internal and external staff on SCE’s Outage Management System (SCE OMS), and bidding, scheduling, and demand response processes.
Qualifications

The Essentials

5 to 7+ years of experience supporting, troubleshooting, or implementing technical, manufacturing or business systems.
Proven track record of taking the initiative to identify issues, resolve problems, and enhance organizational capabilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products with emphasis in Excel and Word including VBA.
The Preferred

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
Familiarity with operation and control of power generation stations in the CAISO market including CAISO Energy Management System (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Energy Communication Network (ECN), SCE GenMS, Remote Intelligent Gateways (RIGs), and recorded phone systems.
Experience supporting HMI software including the Wonderware suite of applications: InTouch, Application Server, Archestra Graphics, and Historian Client.
Knowledge of CAISO markets and software like the Outage Management System (OMS), Customer Market Results Interface (CMRI), Scheduling Infrastructure & Business Rules (SIBR), Access and Identity Management (AIM), Customer Inquiry Dispute and Information (CIDI), and Demand Response programs.
Experience in systems testing, defect tracking, and issue resolution.
Knowledge of CAISO Business Practice Manuals (BPMs) and Operating Procedures.
Familiarity with Inter-Control Center Communication Protocol (ICCP) and Distributed Network Protocol (DNP).
Experience in project management
Strong background in IT systems and thorough working knowledge of the IT infrastructure and network of SCE or other company of comparable size.
Knowledge of electric industry physical and cyber-security requirements (including NERC-CIP).
Experience with vendor security certificates with emphasis on CAISO and Open Access Technology International (OATI) certificates.
Basic understanding of LAN/WAN networks to support and troubleshoot SCADA and application communication to generation resources and internal systems.

Work Mode: This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
