Agreed. When you take the oath to protect and serve under that badge you have agreed to run towards the danger not hide form it. In my mind he needs to be brought upon charges of negligent homicide because he did not fulfill his duty to protect those kids. Now an ordinary citizen that has a carry permit I can understand a little bit of them hiding but he is employed to do his best to protect those around him. He may have been able to stop him or at least save some of those that were killed.

PO1 (Join to see) - I can honestly say that I don't know about me personally that is why I am not a cop. But he did when he took that oath to be a cop...period. He took the job, he took the oath, and the hid while the people he was hired to protect died. That is what training is for..to put you in situations so it is automatic and you don't freeze. Peoples lives depend on it and you have to get it right every time. Criminals only have to get it right once.

Training does not make these responses automatic. It better prepares you, but still there are people who have undergone years of training that are unable to perform.

My thing is that he was hired to do just that based on his experience and his badge. He knew that was part of the job description when he was hired...they don't make any bones about it when they hire you into that profession. They tell you up front you will run towards danger and you may get killed but that is what you do. My emotions got the best of me earlier and I should not have stated negligent homicide...maybe that is to rough but I think any cop that does not fulfill their duty is no different than any soldier, sailor, airman, or marine in combat that doesn't fulfill theirs. An their punishment is tough and so should the punishment for this cop...especially since people innocent people that counted on him to protect them died while he hid. He did not fulfill his obligation.

PO1 (Join to see) - It doesn't matter if he'd never been in a situation like that before. Most people haven't been in a situation like that before. But it was his job, and he knew it. Hell, just the fact that he had a gun and the teachers and students were disarmed should have been enough to get him to move his fat ass through the doors.

He was already suspended by the Sheriff after his actions were reviewed on camera footage at the school. He was assigned there to protect the facility and the inhabitants of it. Im pretty sure that standing outside of a high school for six minutes and listening to children he was duty bound to protect being slaughtered by a maniac inside aren’t part of the job description of Sheriff’s deputy. He swore an oath to do his duty. He failed utterly.
Contrary to what any “official” statements were released to the parasites in the media, he was damn sure going to be shitcanned and there’s no other way to put it. My own personal thought is that he was called into the Sheriff’s office and advised that it going to go down one of two ways; either he resign voluntarily and try to save a little face or he was fired, period. There was realistically no way in hell he was going to be allowed to continue as a deputy in that Sheriff’s office after what the video footage showed. I’ve worked in LE before and I’d bet the banknon it.
The President was 100% correct in his assessment.

Either way, he will not ever serve in any protective capacity again, especially in LE because nobody will ever want him on their organization after his dereliction.
He’ll spend the rest of his life living with the knowledge that he stood by and did nothing while kids he was charged to protect were being slaughtered wholesale.
When I was on active duty, I can honestly say that the biggest fear I ever had was NOT the risk of getting hurt or killed. My biggest fear and one thing that was constantly in the back of my mind was making sure I didn’t fail those who depended on me. I couldn’t live with myself if people died because I was too chicken shit he nor the oath of office I took. He will spend the rest of his life with the knowledge that he failed to act when the time came.
