Good post Corpsman. I had a meningitis/sepsis case yeasterday on a young person that was quite bizzare and very sad. Public awareness is as important as our professional practice.

Thanks for posting this PO2 (Join to see). My own local healthcare system (hospitals, Ambulance, and Dr's) have been increasing our training regarding treatment of Sepsis. There isn't currently much we can do in an ambulance other than a rapid transport to an ER but I'm hoping that will change some day.

Yes you can my service is the 4th in the country to carry them onboard the unit and the 1st to do so without online dr approval. The numbers are staggering of those we are saving and reducing hospital stays

SGT (Join to see) - I'm curious what treatments and protocols you are using. We're looking at higher doses of Solumedrol but currently don't have protocols to use it.

Let me see if I can get the stats and the protocols. Send me a email and I'll email it to you. I know we use two different medicines because one is for those allergic to penicillin. We also have a 3rd antibiotic we give for open fractures to help know down any infections introduced into the body.

My mother has developed sepsis at least a dozen times. It happens quick. I have always been able to recognize it, I can remember one time standing in the Hospital telling the doctor she is about to go into septic shock and her bp went from extremely high to very low and her temp jumped from normal to 105 while we were speaking, he was shocked and sent her to the icu right away. The highest risk is when the bacteria is a superbug. We just buried my mother on Monday. This one was just one too many for someone that already didn’t have an immune system and required an attibiotic that was contratidicated with most of her other medications. It has been a hard few weeks.
