I have shin splints. I could tough it out for BCT but I need time to recover afterwards. Should I try to get my ship date pushed back? I just don't want to make the injury irreparably worse because I go to Airborne and then RASP in August/September once I'm done w/ AIT.

You do not run every day in BCT /AIT.

The program incorporates endurance and strength activities. You’ll run or ruck roughly three times a week and focus on core / strength two days a week on average.

It will suck regardless. 90% of your possible success is mental. If you’re mentally limiting yourself- that’s what you can expect as far as performance.

Good luck!

Seeing that you have an Airborne Ranger contract you may need to rethink your chosen profession if you have pain now. You will not attend attend BCT. You will go to OSUT (One Station Unit Training.)

The PRT program is intended to condition your body for basic mobility and fitness, but if you aren’t there you should be honest with yourself. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of FM 7-22 and familiarize yourself with the exercises and drills. Remember that you have a pull up event for both Airborne and the RPFT. Dead hang, palms away from you. The RPFT also has a 5 mile run which has hills on the course.
