Is giving POTUS the authority for Fast Track Trade promotion another way for the Presidential position to circumvent Congress? We see time after time where the powers granted to Congress through the Constitution are eroded giving the presidential position more authority to act without the approval of Congress. http://www.usnews.com/debate-club/should-congress-give-the-president-fast-track-trade-promotion-authority http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/congress-urged-to-challange-obamas-executive-actions/2014/02/26/e7f5766e-9f13-11e3-9ba6-800d1192d08b_story.html

This much power needs not to be in the hands of one person. Congress is stupid if they let this stand...

I wrote to my Representative and my Congressman, begging them to vote no on the "Fast Track" authority authorization. Both have indicated that they will vote against it, but the resolution will probably make it through anyway.

Obama seems intent on taking as much as he can in last months as the POTUS. I am just afraid that with this kind of power he will screw things up royally for the US. Perhaps even putting us in jeopardy long after he is gone. There is a reason that there are three branches of Government: So that no one branch can be too powerful, and so that the will of the people can be brought into play. Giving the POTUS "Fast Track" trade promotion authority is going far outside of those security measures.

Were you aware that every President from Ford to GWB had fast-track authority? That would include both Democratic (x2) and Republican (x4) Presidents, and it would also include approval/extension of fast-track authority by Congresses under the full control of both Democrats (1975) and Republicans (2002). I'm perplexed at why/how this has become a President Obama-specific issue. He was just seeking something that past Presidents from both parties have had, and that authority had been approved by previous Congresses under the full control of both parties.

Actually, I am aware of that.

It becomes an Obama specific issue because our current President tends to "jump into" situations without having the backing of the people who elected him, and even his own Cabinet. He is pushing his own agenda, in my opinion, and no longer, necessarily, what is best for the Country.

If he wants what other Presidents have had he will just have to prove that he is worthy of that authority in front of the people.

Being a citizen, and a voter, who has looked into the issue, and made the decision to counsel my Representatives in Washington DC that I am against this POTUS having this authority, I am well within my rights to defend my position as such.

I hope this answers your questions.

I would have to say yes and that the President has way too much authority to make "Executive Orders."
I can't wait for 2017 to roll around, maybe our country will have better luck!

Can you imagine the next potus being an R and using the same powers that they just gave to the office of the president? The left will go nuclear.
