Put on medical board without being on profile, is that the Army way?

So my friend advised me tonight they where put on a medical board never put on a profile at all for the condition what is the policy with the Army is that the way to do it to put Soldiers on Medical Boards with no profiles? My friend has already signed the papers and is already doing QTC appointments and its only been 2 weeks.

You have to have a profile for a med board/ides. You can be given a permanent profile p3 that triggers a medical board without any previous profiles, but that is rare. If the condition is permanent in nature and bad enough you can skip the temporary profiles and go straight to permanent. However, this is generally not the case as doctors like to treat and control conditions. There is always more to the story with medical fitness issues though.

Thank you for the reply Im gong to advice my friend to please seek legal help with this as she had just did a complete medical exam back in October 2015 for a school and passed with flying colors this is things that truly put some red flags to me.

There has to be a permanent profile for a medical board to be initiated and the medical condition is stated on the profile. So she knows what the medical condition is. If she is saying otherwise that sends the bs meter off the charts. It is possible she is embarrassed about her condition and doesn't want to disclose it or is being administratively separated for something else all together. Seeking legal is solid advice.

Sir, I’m not sure how the Army Operates, but with the Air Force we have something called the Office if Airmen’s counsel ( different than JAG or area defense counsel). These folks work with SM’s going though Medical Boards. I can tell you this, with MEBs it depends on the condition and severity. Most of the time at least on the AF side, of a service member meets max benefit. Meaning they have done everything to treat injury while on service, and it is now preventing deployment, ability to run 100 yards or carry x- amount of weight, then they will refer to a med board/ IDES. How the retirements go, is it is based on condition and severity level. You must meet a certain percentage for a Medical Retirement. CPT Mark Gonzalez

Working Medical Boards I loathe the ‘my friend’ and the rest of the barracks lawyer talk.
For a Medical Evaluation Board to proceed a Permanent Profile must be signed.
The SM might not have received/acknowledged a copy ‘handed’ to them. But heard of AKO- one can track their Medical Readiness there!
Or the Board the SM is actually going through is not a Medical Retention board but an Administrative Board.
Trust me, a lot of confused SM are out there during MEBs. It’s either a) how can I stay in? b) how can I get “Medical Retirement” and make $7K /month (milk it) for being in service for 2 yrs?
(Option b is a mermaid- fantasy)

I don't believe that weight (or failing a pinch test) would put you automatically on a profile.
