Coronavirus Safety Runs Into a Stubborn Barrier: Masculinity

When political leaders suggest basic precautions appear unmanly, men are less likely to follow health and safety advice, experts say.

(Dare I suggest that we of the Macho Military bent are susceptible to this threat to our "manliness?")

Trump exudes the macho man, yet underlying this is a deep-seated fear of rejection. During adolescence, we feel invincible and as tho we are playing to an "invisible audience". Combatants return from these campaigns feeling quite vulnerable. They tend to overcompensate by keeping these feeling buried. My clinical research on combat trauma goes all the way back to WW Two and encompasses the post 911 conflicts. We work hard at suppressing and repressing these memories.
Males tend to be competitive while women are more cooperative. They also exhibit a stronger relational self, and are more comfortable in sharing intimate feelings. In fact, words and feelings are their primary tools; while actions are the tools of men.
