I agree with this, the Army loses some stellar performers due to high op tempo's, mandatory schoolings, and deployments.

There was something similar back in '71. When I returned from Vietnam (1969)I got out. I went home. The job market was not doing very well. I went to Computer Programming School for 2 years and got my degree, but the jobs were still not there in my area. Then I saw an ad on TV stating if a soldier had been out of the Army for less than 30 months, they could come back in, keep their previous rank, and get choice of assignment (if available).
I went to my local recruiter and checked into the program. He said he was not sure if he could get me both my rank back plus assignment choice. I told him if not, forget about it.
By the time I got home, there was a message to call him back. I got sworn in on 7 June 1971. As they say, the rest is history.
Not the same as this, but close.

You're about 2 or 3 years older than me, but I saw many retreads saying this at MEPS back in 72.
