I am a DS/DS, OIF, OEF PTS/TBI Vetaren dad of a son who went to Afghanistan with him. Here are a few thoughts on prayer, meditation, and therapy.

Inner emotions are akin to boiling water.

Uncovered pots take longer to boil as they release steam as the water warms this steam creates water drops easily removed from a range hood.

A teapot boils much faster by keeping steam and heat inside until it begins a deafening whistle to say "I'm boiling inside."

A pressure cooker holds nearly all its heat in. It can go the longest without letting the nieghborhood know it is boiling. However, unchecked, it can explode actually damaging all who are near.

I started with weeks of daily therapy. Now I've amassed years of bi weekly sessions with many adjustments to my medications.

I continue daily prayer and meditation on Gods word. These aids my practice of mindfulness thru art, writing, woodworking and other creative endeavors.

My goal thru all these is to be an "uncoveresd pot" with my emotions more than I am either of the other two.

This perspective and method works best for me, my family, and all with whom I interact.

Thank you for your families service. The last month of news has been challenging. It is difficult when we see our leadership make decisions that don't seem to make any sense. Keep talking and sharing with people and understand that you don't have direct control but you know how to love and care for others who are around us. Valuing our family and friends and living well is the best thing we can do.
