I am considering joining the National Guard as a 15T, I am finishing up my A&P program as a civilian now but we briefly discussed rotary wing and have never touched one in my program. With that said my rotary wing maintenance knowledge is very limited. I have my packet turned in and waiting for approval then hopefully MEPS. My questions are, does any have any advice going through 15T AIT? Is there any reading I can do like maintenance manuals or publications, videos etc to help expand my knowledge on rotary wing, specifically the UH-60? Also, side question, as I stated I'm going National Guard, what are my chances of getting Airborne or Air Assault? I know I would probably never use this training in my career in the military but would be a great experience.

As a former instructor at the 15T school house you'll be fine. We teach you all you need to know to set your self up for success. Pay attention during conference and when doing hands on tasks. Good luck

I just finished the 15T AIT training. I was the distinguished honor graduate. You will be fine. Just pay attention in class. It’s easy stuff for the mechanically inclined. No need to stress or worry. I had a battle buddy who has his A&P and Pilots license. To him the training in his own words was too easy. As far as assault or airborne make sure it’s in your contract when you sign. Otherwise it’s depending on your units needs. As a mechanic in an ASB (Aviation Support Battalion) it’s not likely.

I appreciate it. I just asked my recruiter about any potential bonuses and AAS and airborne but he hasnt gotten back to me yet. Well i dont have my pilots license but hopefully the A&P will help me out. Again, thank you.
