Has anyone gone to BLC or any other NCOES in the middle of the semester during college?

I know it's all about priorities, but I'm wondering if it is worth it in regards to college. Is it missing too much time of the semester to make it up? I've had others in my unit do it and end up failing classes as a result. There are some that took a whole semester off for a 3 week course so they didn't have to worry about failing. Just trying to get some outside input on the topic. To clarify, I am asking this question in regards to attending actual classes, not taking online classes.

I'd take the semester off if you plan on making a career of the military, if you plan on getting out, then the rank and training may not have as much meaning to you in the long run. Can your unit schedule you during off time? You're ARNG, they should be able to select when to send you. The new reg makes SSD 1 and BLC a requirement prior to pinning E-5.

I only have 3 semesters of school left and am trying to finish ASAP. I definitely want to make a career of it. I was just wondering if anyone has tried attending ncoes during a semester and had successful grades in that semester.

SGT (Join to see) - I took school off, but we had rolling enrollments, so I didn't fall too far behind

I would avoid trying to do both. Your first mission is to be a Soldier with the second being a good student. You should expect to be fully engaged during any NCOES, just as in your college courses. My suggestion is to take the semester off and then get back in the books. Good luck!

SGT (Join to see) - No problem, good to see Soldiers engaged in college while on AD. I strongly encouraged my Soldiers to course either online or in the evenings. As a medic and now PA, I would encourage you to use your skill set and apply it towards entry into the IPAP program.
Secondly, I believe your courses taken while on AD do not count against your GI Bill. If you earn your degree on AD, you may be able to roll those benefits to your defendants or take flying lessons :-)

I tried doing training in the middle of the semester and it ended very poorly. I struggled to catch up and ended up dropping a class and failing another. Now, since I have other schools to go to, I decided to take a year off. It's working out for the better. I can go back in with nothing but school on my mind, and my training already done. Avoid training during the school year like the plague.

Agreed..unless I can get a semester where I can get primarily online classes from my school, I will have to pray it all works out to where I can make it to ncoes next summer.

College will always be there. Opportunities to advance your military career will not. That's how I see it.
