I’ve been specialist for almost 4 years now, and now that I’m at the points they make this change, I’m hoping I don’t have to corporal for long and my time as a specialist helps me

From my understanding, you will only be a corporal until you make the SGT list. If you happen to have points and all other requirements, you could pick up SGT in July instead of Corporal.

Directly from AR 600-8-19 section 3-11
"Processing timeline requirements.
(a) Figure 3–3 identifies the monthly promotion cycle. Once integrated, promotion points are effective on the 1st cal-
endar day of the following month (for example, a Soldier approved for integration by February 8th, will compete forpromotion against the 1 March cutoff scores). Data changes resulting in a revised promotion point total that are made after the 8th calendar day of the month will impact promotion scores for the follow-on month"

SGT (Join to see) - This was correct, however, a MILPER message came out and trumps the AR until it's updated. The new timeline is that whatever is in/on your record at 0200 hours (eastern standard time) on the 1st of each month, is the points you will have for the upcoming cut off scores. You really need to sit down and read the ALARACT and the regulation.

There is no set amount of time for you to be in one rank, so long as you meet the TIG/TIS requirements. The new lateral promotion from Specialist to Corporal is only for promotable soldiers. If you make points, you are no longer promotable -- you will be promoted.

With that being said, I highly suggest you start reading regulations and becoming familiar with the new promotion system. When you do get picked up, you'll be expected to know these things.
