I know I'm in a good job for the civilian market, but I want to work for a DOD or HLS organization when I get out of the army. Aviation doesn't help with that.

currently 15G is No/No for SL1 so it won't be that simple. Have you talked to your reenlistment NCO yet about this? That NCO will be the one that will be able to help you the most in getting this if that is what you want.

I'm kind of curious as to why you think 12B (Combat Engineer) would help you get a job with the Department of Defense or Homeland Security? What type of work do you want to do for them?

My company leadership at the time were surprised because all aviation slots were closed and over capacity.

PFC (Join to see) If you're looking for something to help after the Army, I would not recommend 12B. The skillset of a Combat Engineer doesn't readily translate into the civilian sector, and those few niche jobs are hard to find. One of the best CMFs to set you up for success civvie side is Information Technology.

While your heart is in the right place for wanting to help others, you should put you and your future above all else. I had the same idea going in and it was a real wakeup call to know what awaited me outside the military for a one to one skillset. Keep that in mind if youre hell bent on reclassing.
