CW3 Matt Tait Which has its good and bad points. This new policy looks like it’s going rip out the bad points - being stuck as a WOC with all that entails - and keeps the good points - getting the 2 years of mentorship and development as a WO1 before commissioning as a CW2.

CW4 Guy Butler - I agree. his is better than being a WOC, living in the barracks, having TACs, while in flight school. This isn't terrible as at most its a slight pay decrease over time and might affect some prior enlisted soldiers retirement rank if they are trying to get out at a set number of years of service. It might actually help a CW2 or CW3 who isn't going to get picked up for promotion still make 20 years. On the other hand this change might be unnecessary as, my opinion, the expectations of a just promoted tech Warrant CW2 and a flight Warrant CW2 are not equal. I'm a former flight Warrant now tech Warrant and I expect more of new tech Warrants as they should have came up in the field as an NCO.

CW3 Matt Tait Agreed on the tech versus flight difference; I’m thinking more of the “high school to flight school” warrant who doesn’t have that prior unit experience. There’s a big difference between being in a continuous institutional training environment and being in a functional unit in the “real” Army.

CW4 Guy Butler - Definitely. The high school to flight school soldiers, who are generally very high achieving individuals to have been accepted without prior service, and even the prior service solders from other branches highlight how much of the Army is learned being in a unit as opposed to at Army schools.
kinda seems like a dick move. I am not a warrant, so I really have no skin in this game.
Lol just imagine if your time in grade didnt start till you finished AIT.

I think its a moot point. No commander was blindly assuming that just because someone made CW2 they were suddenly a different level of pilot than when they when they were a WO1 the day before. But it won't hurt WO recruiting. I'd have gone to flight school as a SGT if that was what was required.

CW3 Matt Tait I would go through flight school NOW and sacrafice whatever was needed too to get there....but fate has always had other ideas for me.

SSG (Join to see) - It's been a minute since I went though and I switched to managing UAS a while back but if you do have questions message me. I've seen some pretty old soldiers who had injuries, one even had a neck tattoo, get in during times the Army was short.
