Field Artillery Surveyor
F/26 FA was the only complete Target Acquisition Battery in Vietnam. We operated all along the DMZ. We had counter battery radar, observers in towers at all of the fire bases and fire support bases along the DMZ, and two sound bases consisting of a string of microphones buried in the ground to pick up the sound of incoming artillery shells and rockets. We ran surveys to mark the exact map location of each radar set, tower, and microphone so that return fire could be directed accurately.
