Joined the Navy to see the world, they sent me to Beeville Tx. 140 miles from my hometown. Sounds like good duty, huh? Training base for boot pilots, 30 year old TA-4J Skyhawk jets, in the armpit of the world, with the leftovers of the Navy. Tried to make the best of it, but,,,,,couldn't. Weekly chit put in for a transfer to the fleet, no go. Did a couple of stints in the brig, then got my DD-214 at 4:12 pm on Nov 24th 1982. Wish it would have been different. Proud to have volunteered. Sad I got shafted.
