Western Pacific
Aboard USS Thomaston LSD28 - two deployments. The first was a Vietnam cruise and equator crossing so yes I am a shellback. The 2nd was a liberty cruise. After a fuel and stores stop at Pearl Harbor, we visited Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), Diego Garcia, finally Subic Bay where I got off to go home.
1969 - 1970
Western Pacific
Aboard USS Benner DD807, plane guard for USS Ranger, SAR station with USS Long Beach, Gunfire Support near Vietnam coast, Russian Trawler surveillance off S. Vietnam (FUN!) Then home. Benner decommissioned in Nov. 1970 at Bremerton.
