Med Cruise: 04/30/68 - Depart Norfolk, VA, USA; to Athens, Greece; Messina, Sicily; Valletta, Malta; Istanbul, Turkey; Thessaloniki, Greece; Toulon, France; Naples, Italy; Golfe Juan, France; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Genoa, Italy; Livorno, Italy;; Taranto, Italy; Valletta, Malta; Athens, Greece (Christmas/New Year's week); Palma de Mallorca Spain; arrive Norfolk, VA, USA - 01/27/69 Independence spent time in Norfolk, made at least 2 trips of CarQuals off Gitmo Bay before another Med Cruise which departed 09/02/69, the day I finished my Navy enlistment. I was ship's company, IM-3 Division, AE-2 in AE Shop approx. 1.5 months, then went to MAA Div. for 12 months, returning to AE Shop until discharge.
