I was born In Evanston Illinois and grew up mostly in neighboring Wilmette, where there was and is a Coast Guard station,-- could not join military because i had thyroid cancer when I was 16, ( brother became a Navy jet carrier pilot and later contract approval post as Naval Weapons Evaluations Facility). My father wrote the training film for the Uniform Code of Military Justice during WW2
