Bio
I was a troubled teenager. My parents divorced when I was 14 and I was already an alcoholic by the age of 16. I did drugs and dropped out of school. I ran away (actually, I just left) from home several times. Finally, my mother had had enough and told me she was going to send me to juvi. So, I told her I was joining the Navy. I spent 13 years active.
Military Experiences
Apr 1990 - Oct 1993
PO1 - AMS1(AW)
My alcoholism was in full bloom when I arrived at VP-50, then sent to VP-40 after the decommission of the squadron. We lost a lot of great men when those planes collided. It was a sad day for everyone. I was depressed, married to a man I hated, had 3 small children, and life really sucked. I was working on aircraft I didn't want to be around (P-3), and I was not a happy person at all. I was assigned to Corrosion Control as the supervisor. I managed to maintain some semblance of decorum and attitude and didn't get busted. The command wanted to extend my EAOS out to my PRD so I would end up going to Japan for 6 months with them. I told the CO no. My kids were more important than leaving them with my drunk husband. I wrote a letter to get out early. Sorry I did to this day.
May 1987 - Apr 1990
PO1 - AMS1
Went back to the same command I left before going overseas and was almost 7 months pregnant when I got here. I was lucky. Still a great command. Became the IMRL manager because I had the experience. Then, took over Corrosion Control when I made E-6. Certified Painter. I was also the Urinalysis Coordinator. Everyone hated me. They thought I was a narc (I wasn't). I ended up getting married (BIG mistake) and having another child. I should have not married, but sometimes life throws you lemons and you just don't know what to do with them.
Apr 1984 - Apr 1987
PO2 - AMS2
VR-24 was decommissioned and VR-22 became the new command. Plank Holder of VR-22. C-130s. Rota was nice. Realized I was alcoholic while here (not that I stopped drinking). Almost got busted. Luckily, went to treatment and survived. Worked in the Tool Room as the IMRL Manager.
Apr 1981 - Apr 1984
PO3 - AMS3
F/A-18 Detachment for the OPEVAL. Fun. A-4, F/A-18 Plane Captain. I worked mostly on the Line. I did end up in Corrosion Control. Some good times; some bad times. Some really bad times. Overall not a bad duty.
