I enlisted into the Delayed Entry Program at 17 while still in high school and not yet a US Citizen. It was 1987 and my mother convinced me to switch to the Reserves before I signed anything. Never thought I’d see any action as a Cold War reservist but Desert Shield/Storm happened and I got to see Hawaii and the Philippines on my way to Kuwait on an amphibious ship. Great memories- great buddies.
