(Oct-Dec 1982 - Basic Training, Fort Dix, NJ) (Jan-Apr 1983 - Signal School, Fort Gordon, GA) This was an interesting assignment because of the duality of being enlisted on Active Duty but commissioned in the Individual Ready Reserve: An NCO in my day job, officer while deployed. The position was a direct-report to the XVIII ABC Commander.

I had left the Georgia Army National Guard to take an Air Defense Artillery school slot at the Army Reserve Center in Macon but at the same time an O-3 coming off Active Duty was accepted for the billet due to more experience and rank. I transferred to the Individual Ready Reserve in order to preserve my commission.
