I served in the Regular Army 1976 to 1979, the Army Reserve from 1979 to 1989, and the Regular Army from 1989 to 2010. My goal was to retire to provide for my family. At the time, you needed to have 20 years and be a SSG to retire. I went to work and the Army kept promoting me. I retired at 24+ years service active (34+ years total) as a 1SG in 2010.
