SSG, Ops Sgt, USARHAW Command Center
Was the Operations Sergeant In the Army's Command Center (CCOC) at Schofield Barracks Hawaii in the G-3, Directorate of Operations. Coordinating return of U.S. units from RVN. Project Red Hat, NCOIC (Disposal of chemical and biological weapons throughout the Pacific Theatre.) Promoted to SSG in Mar 71. Attended Thai Language School, of Defense Language Institute.
Mar 1968 - Jan 1969
Grunt and LRRP
Infantryman in rifle squad, decorated twice first five days in the field during worst of '68 (May, worst year of war...NOT TET). Then volunteered for LRRPs, 3rd Bde, 4ID. Eventually became Sergeant, Team Leader 11 missions, 9 of them contact. Medevacced to Japan, Zama, 1 Jan '69 after nine days in coma (less that 10% chance of survival.)
