Bio

Honestly, I went into the service because my life was in chaos. Crappy job, just wrecked my car, my life was going nowhere fast. So my best friend decides he's gonna join up (He also had nothing going, & traffic warrants ha ha) so I went to buy beer, got caught with a Fake ID, and had my beer confiscated too! When I returned 2 hours later, beerless, I said "Ill go too." The rest.... Is History.

Military Experiences

Jan 1975 - Sep 1976
SP4
Driving an International 2000D truck, making deliveries throughout Germany, later same job, but driving a deuce and a half. Drinking beer to support the German economy.
Jan 1975 - Sep 1976
Military Truck Driver
I started out in the 89th Trans, with IHC trucks, the 2000D "Fleetmaster" series, 6-71 Detroits w/10 speed Road Rangers. It was fun driving, being on the road, visiting places, getting hopelessly lost as all hell! I pulled short reefer trailers, about 26 ft. but it felt like I was pulling a boxcar. I got jammed up a lot, they didn't teach us a darned thing, I drove that truck only once, and then on the Autobahn! I've been to many bases in Germany, was a good soldier, but all for nought. When they needed fresh blood for a Deuce & a half company, I lost my nice IHC, & was stuck in a tactical. But the truck and I finally got to be pals, we'd drive all day and I didn't have to blouse my boots or listen to anybody's belly aching. I got 49,000 miles in just 20 mos, and was our "High Miler" :-)

Deployments

(1 year, 1 month)
Sep 1975 - Sep 1976
Rhein Main
Eh, wasn't too hard. The wing nuts in Frankfurt needed The BRAVE POWERFUL U.S. ARMY to help them, like always since we separated after WWII. So we REAL MEN volunteered to help the Air Farce lady folk do their jobs. Whenever a jet had a tummy ache, they'd CRY & Whine, begging us to haul a new nail file or engine to the poor thing. We were HEROES!
