Bio

I got drafted into the Army reporting 13 May, 1971. Processed thru Chicago induction and flew to Seattle, Wa. and a bus ride to Fort Lewis for basic training. Second day of reception was asked if I wanted to go to OCS and I declined. Finished basic and went to Fort Bliss El Paso, Tx for 16P10 Chaparral missile AIT. Graduated 1st in my class and did a live fire. 9 months later went to Ft. Carson

Military Experiences

May 1973 - May 1974
863rd EN BN
Cartographic Draftsman
Did a one year stint in the active Army Reserves serving as a cartographic draftsman and a generator operator. Did my monthly weekend drills and 2 weeks at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin. Nothing too eventful in my one year stint but was glad to complete my commitment.
Ended in Sep 1971
Senior Gunner - Chaparral ADA
Spec 4 Senior Gunner crew member doing unit training before joining the rest of the battalion at Fort Carson. We had 2 batteries of Chaparral ADA weapon systems and there were 2 batteries of Vulcan ADA weapon systems already in place at Fort Carson. Our system used the AIM 9 surface to air missile and the Vulcan had a 20mm 6 barreled burp gun mounted on top of a APC. In March of 72 all of us transferred to Fort Carson. I went up advanced party to unload our vehicles that were shipped there and drove them to the motor pool. When we got settled in we began battalion training in the field. Going out in field in Colorado in winter wasn't a lot of fun. I was made a squads leader in November of 72 and got my sergeant stripes. We had a good squad and held our own. ETS'd out 12 May, 1973.
