Military Experiences

May 1971 - Dec 1979
Station Commander
Started as a Field Recruiter assigned to Wilkes-Barre, PA. It was a five man Station with a monthly goal of 25-30 people. That included a goal for women and certain MOS's. We made them most of the time and I took over the Station in 76. I moved to the Pittston, PA office in 77 with the idea of preparing to retire in 79. During my time as a recruiter I never missed my annual goals and when I was station Commander we never missed our goals as well.
Dec 1968 - Apr 1971
7th Army NCOA
Senor Instructor/Committee Chief
Started out as a Leadership Instructor, learned the entire POI which was 40 hours long, in less than 6 months, no one had ever done that before as it takes 8 hours to learn a 1 hour course. Promoted to the Tactics Committee in June 70 and rewrote the entire POI in two weeks and had my 4 instructors trained to present 20 hours of classroom instruction within that two week period. I wrote the lesson plans for each class which included 20hrs of field training. I also withdrew my OCS application on the advice of my PSNCO.
Apr 1968 - Dec 1968
Tank Platoon Sergeant
Platoon Sgt for a 5 tank platoon of M-60 Tanks. Moved to HQ Co to take over the Recon Platoon as the Platoon Leader and Volunteered for OCS. because of the war in Vietnam we were very short handed and never had more then 55 percent of our TO&E. Decided to volunteer for Instructor Duty at the 7th Army NCO Academy, Bad Toltz. Was accepted and reassigned to the school.
Mar 1967 - Mar 1968
Infantry Squad Leader
Started as an 11B40 because the unit had enough TC's. Was moved after 6 weeks to the Recon Sect. as a track Cmdr on the 12 track. moved to a tank in May 67 and finished my tour as a tank commander and was the acting Plt Sgt on the first day of TET 68. Wounded that day and never went back to the field prior to rotating back to the states on my way to Germany.
