Bio

I am John Schoonmaker, PA-C. I work as an independent PA in Southport, NC. I started my professional life as a USAF Security Specialist, SP in 1986. I joined to get the GI Bill in order to go to college after serving my country in the armed forces. My greatest education was my time in the AF. I'm thankful for the honor of being a veteran. When I left the Air Force, I worked two civilian jobs while serving as an active reservist at Seymore Johnson AFB for one year, and finished my Inactive Reserve commitment in 1999. I graduated from Cape Fear Community College with x2 Associate Degrees in 1995, and transferred to Mars Hill College. I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Biology/Pre-Med, Magna Cum Laude in 1998, and gained acceptance to the Wake Forest University School of Medicine PA program. I graduated from Wake In 2000 with Honors. I then was accepted into an intensive Residency program in Dermatology. I have practiced medicine in many aspects, and am now serving the Southport and Oak Island areas as a primary care and urgent care PA. I am married to a wonderful wife, Liz, and have two beautiful and intelligent daughters, Ariel and Piper. I am a certified Divemaster and Rescue Diver, and enjoy the ocean, my home, my faith, and my family. I am proud and thankful as well to be an Air Force veteran.
