Supervised technicians from 4 maintenance specialties in the performance of scheduled maintenance and heavy maintenance operations for CH-53 A/D and CH-53E Helicopters. Rewrote maintenance plan to focus on cross-functional training of all technicians in avionics, flight line, flight equipment and hydraulics. Reduced scheduled maintenance time for A, B, and C phase inspections from an average of five working days to 7 hours and the D phase inspection from and average of 14 work days to 16 hours. Directly affected aircraft availability and thereby affected the squadron's ability to accomplish its mission as the sole CH-53 training squadron in the Marine Corps. Responsible for maintenance and mission readiness of CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters. Supervised technicians from Avionics, Flight Equipment, Hydraulics, and Rotors and Related systems. Performed aircraft pre-flight inspections and certified aircraft as "safe-for-flight." Performed flight engineering duties during functional check flights and following heavy maintenance operations. Performed flight engineer, loadmaster and aerial gunnery duties during flight operations. Trained new flightline mechanics to become Plane Captains and Naval Aircrewmen. Achieved over 4500 mishap-free flight hours in CH-53E Aircraft including 125 hours during combat operations and over 500 hours using night vision goggles.
