Hamberger entered the military as a Personnel Records Clerk at Ft. McClellan AL and completed OCS in 1980. Assigned to the 11th ACR following Cavalry OBC, he served as C Trp Plt Ldr, Asst S3 Plans, B Trp XO, Sqdn Commo Off, and C Trp Cdr. He was the Boeselager Team leader/trainer '81-'85 and following AOAC finished his time as Combat Arms Advisor to the 80th MTC in Richmond VA working with USAR Upon separation, worked as Administrative Manager in Electronics Manufacturing and after receiving Bachelors in 1991, worked as Mental Health Therapist. Got Masters in 1993, became Licensed Professional Counselor in 1995 and had private practice from 1995-2005. Worked in Residential Treatment for Severely Mentally Disturbed adolescents until '08, then worked with female juvenile offenders, before taking present job in UAB Athletics.
