Caribbean - Panama - Pacific

ATCS in charge of 9-man deployment of MQM-74C Target Drones on (FF-1032). We visited Port au Prince, Haiti; Orangestad, Aruba; Cartagena, Colombia; Panama; became SHELLBACKS in the Pacific, and then on to 3 months in Chile; the Straights of Magellan; Uraguay; and RIO for 9 days. Had lunch in the bar on Ipanima Beach where the song was written.

The Med - Rota to Istanbul

Still an AT2 and Shift Supervisor of the night shift working on A3D electronic equipment. After AVI-B school I was assigned to VAH-10 out of Whidbey Island, WA. We deployed on the USS Independence (CVA-72). We did workups off Gitmo, and got liberty and shore det. there. The only traffic light in the USA with Red at the bottom on 2 sides is there !

AT2 - Night Shift (1900-0700) supervisor of eight technicians replacing com-nav and ECM equipment in nine McDonell-Douglas A3D Skywarriors. Reinlisted during this cruise for six years for orders to Advanced Class-B school at NATTC Memphis, to cancel my extension - in the tax-free zone off Viet Nam. Fondly remember The China Fleet Club in Hong Kong.

My first cruise was on the UJSS Coral Sea (CVA-43) with VAH2 Detachment A as a flight-deck aviation electronics technician working the day shift replacing failed communications/navigation and electronic countermeasures equipment in McDonnell-Douglas A3D Skywarrior aircraft. I extended my enlistment to have a total of 5 years, and made E-4.
