I was a first Lt when deployed to Vietnam. initially a platoon leader and quickly promoted to Company Commander of the 10th Transportation Company of the 7th Battalion. I ran convoys in the bottom three sections of Vietnam for the entire year because of a lack of officers assigned to my company. I had one platoon leader convoy commander who was ambushed twice and he asked me to take him off the road for a concern with another ambush. I let him go to be the S1 at battalion and ran all convoys for the rest of the time.
