The ship was a destroyer,and when i got on it was being used for training reserves an we would go out for two week trips all year long, the year i was on ,i went from Seattle all the way down to Acapulco Mex ,
Was a great cruises and crew, i worked in aft engine room.
It was some great duty , passed my E-5 exam,but billets we're full at that time,but when discharged ,they offered it to my with duty anywhere for 2 yrs,but it was a 6 yr hitch,lol

Went to ship as a fireman apprentice ,then made machinist mate 3 class, I worked in ! engine group, which included eng , pump,generators ,shaft alleys, we all in division worked in other spaces when steaming in port , responsibility included powering and running engine rooms , returning water to boilers to be turned back into steam ,to power the engines and catapults for aircraft, and steam for everything else on ship.

April 72, vietnam had a uprising again and Midway was in sea trials but called back to port and we had 3 days to get our affairs in order for deployment to Nam. we left after easter and went straight to PI. to stock and fill up,we left and went to Nam,but while there got stuck in a typhoon for 3 days,a carrier can rock and roll with water over bow
