Bio

After separation I began working for architects in North and South Carolina. Since 2002 I have owned a single-person architectural practice in the Greenville S.C. area---mostly doing houses, renovations and additions, and some small multi-family and commercial projects. I remember my three years in the Army as an important time of growing in my life.

Military Experiences

Sep 1970 - Sep 1973
Architect / Planner
After ROTC at Washington U. in St. Louis and summer camp at Fort Riley, KS, I attended Engineer Basic and Advanced schools at Fort Belvoir, VA. I was assigned to the Corp of Engineers' Ohio River District, with duty station at the Pittsburgh District headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. I was involved in planning and design of recreation facilities at Corps reservoirs in PA, NY, OH, and WV, as well as other planning aspects of District Projects. I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for coordinating disaster relief activities after Tropical Storm Agnes in the Susquehanna River Basin of PA and NY State. I also played a leading role in preparing a Floodproofing Regulations document in the District Office and also the Chief of Engineers Office in DC (intended as a draft national model code.)
