Assigned to a brand new unit, A Co, 3rd MI Bn (AE) and got to meet Chief of Staff General John William Vessey Jr. when he visited the unit the second week I was there. Worked night shift on OV-1 aircraft, performing all needed work. In June 1983 moved to B Co to work on RU-21H aircraft. Performed all phases of launch and phased maintenance.

Assigned to 55th AVN CO (A) at K-16 and was first in Flight operations in my secondary MOS because of overages and shortages. after 3 months worked on the flight line as crew chief for one of out U-21s. I was primary mechanic on that plane and went where it went, all over the south pacific with General John A. Wickham Jr., commander 8th Army

Worked as member of the repair team for U-21, UH-1 and OH 58 because the Maintenance officer said the starch wing guys help the fling wing guys, and the fling wing guys help the starch wing guys, a wrench bender is a wrench bender. Additional duty as assistant mail-room clerk and picked up movies at the engineer compound every Tuesday.
