SO, this is a shore duty jacket to make us look like aviators? Sorry, don't need it. Can I wear it on ship... nope, need to wear the float coat because that leather jacket won't keep you afloat if you go overboard. It is time we realize that we don't need to add a new "cool" uniform item every year.

When I first arrived on the "Supergator", we didn't even have those. The Airboss and I somehow acquired Mustang jackets for the dudes and had Chief issue 'em under the idea they were Divisional property.

I may make some of my commissioned brethren upset with my comments...but here goes; this is a terrible idea. A long time ago, in a far away galaxy called VT-4, I was an actual, honest-to-goodness "student naval aviator". Upon completion of API (basically the bit where they try to drown you daily whilst putting your brain through a blender called "ground school"), I received the coveted G-1 flight jacket. When I voluntarily left flight training after graduating from Primary Flight Training...I made the long walk down to Issue, and turned it back in. I wouldn't wear one now under any circumstances because frankly, I didn't earn it.

SWOs don't need to look like Aviators...and if they want to give them an article of "organizational clothing" to be proud of again, I think they could do far worse than bringing back Working Khakis and those nifty Vietnam-era deck jackets; canvas, with a fleece lining; kinda "uber Carharrts". If they really wanted to do the right thing, the same should be issued to every sailor, enlisted or officer.

SCPO Jason McLaughlin - Love Top Gun and after seeing TGII preview in Regal when watching latest Star Wars over holidays with son and granddaughter in 4D I am looking fwd to June 2020. TG came when I was on AD. But it did not make me want to jump right up to buy Aviator Jacket. But, later after serving on an Aircraft Carrier and earning my AW wings I had so much more appreciation for not only pilots but the SWOs that made things happen so those pilots could get their jobs done when asked.

But, you are RIGHT it is marketing! In a few moments you see my next reply to LCDR Joshua Gillespie a draft idea.

Senior, I bet if Tom Cruise was properly approached, he might consider the idea I presented in my response to LCDR Joshua Gillespie and might even offer to speak to the studios to do some sort of gift pre-viewing promotion in theaters at release in order to address the veteran homeless issue and other issues. If on the same day people viewed TGII that sales for such jackets reached a certain attainable threshold the general public could engage and veterans, especially homeless veterans could be the big winners. How cool would that be?

Hell, if Cruise wanted to grill me a steak and offer me a cold one to chat about the idea I'd be happy to take him up on it. Of course, he'd have to fly me out. Back seated once, that was cool! A little out of shape now! LoL
