Does anyone have the specific Army reference that outlines when to call at ease/attention when a higher ranking NCO/Officer enters a room?

SFC (Join to see) This used to be in FM 3-21.5 or FM 3-21.13, but I think they've updated it. Local policy may also dictate this.

FM 7-21.13 covered it. That has been replaced by TC 7-21.13 which does not address it.

That's an interesting question...I've never actually seen it, either, neither for Army, when I was ROTC, nor for USAF, when I was at OTS and afterward...honestly, I think it just kinda got hardwired into me as a kind of conditioned reflex, rather like Pavlov's dog, you know? Still, as I'd said, it's an interesting question, certainly....

I don’t know of reg number but it is definitely a courtesy. Call a room full of mixed or all EM to attention. Or all officers to at ease.
