A person w/ military discipline and personal integrity. Trump resents folks like this as it reflects his deep insecurities and inferiority. and actually there are no others in Trump World!
And actually Kelley shared some of POTUS' view of the world.

SFC (Verify To See) - My wife was accepted to IUP, and decided to go to Cal. We met in my senior year, she was a junior. So glad She did not attend IUP! The best decision I made in life, is to ask her to marry me.I hope that her best decision was to say yes? Go Vulcans!

The General is trying to sound like he could have prevented this but think about how the call happened. Trump departed from the script because he felt like doing so. No Chief of Staff would have prevented it nor would they have stopped it from happening. So I tend to agree with Trump that the General is trying to make it sound like he was more pro-active in decision making than he was. In fact that was the reason he was let go, he was reactionary to the decisions after they happened vs proactionary prior to the decisions being made and the reactionary posture appeared to Trump as undermining his decisions. Not blaming Kelly 100% because Trump makes impromptu decisions without consulting anyone so at least 50% of the blame goes to Trump for the Kelly vs Trump disagreement.

Personally, I think Trump should have kept Kelly. He gave him good advice. You should always have people who are willing to tell you the facts on each issue even if it is something you may disagree with.

I don't think Trump's ego is the issue. Many people who have worked for him including ones he didn't seem to have a good relationship with, have said he listens to everything they had to say and weighs the options.
I think the issue is more along the ways of his work experience. He spent a half a century buying, building, and managing an empire in some of the most restrictive areas such as New York. He learned that even when someone or something says he can't do something, he can get it done anyway. Sometimes by pushing, pulling, going around, etc.
In other words, if someone is telling him he can't do something because of a certain law or regulation, even if there is good intention behind it, his instinct is to either go around them or find someone else to do it.
