Today is Great Birthday In Marines history : Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller (June 26, 1898 – October 11, 1971) was a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general who fought guerrillas in Haiti and Nicaragua, and fought in World War II and the Korean War.
Puller is the most decorated Marine in American history. He is one of two U.S. servicemen to be awarded five Navy Crosses and, with the Distinguished Service Cross awarded to him by the U.S. Army, he is the only person to have received six of the nation's second-highest military awards for valor.

I read it and too bad his son took his own life. One of my XOs dated Chesty's daughter. They met on a blind date and he was very impressed meeting Chesty. At the time he was a plebe at West Point and when he graduated in 1960 he choose to go in the Marines instead of the Army. I asked him if meeting Chesty had anything to do with this and he said probably but his Dad was a Marine Col which may have been his reason to go with the Marines

We got together at the USMC Birthday Ball in SF When we left this USMC Ball we were greeted by Act Up & Code Pink.

Thanks for mentioning and honoring Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller SGT John " Mac " McConnell on his birthday. His demonstration of valor in wartime is legendary.
