They went to an academy to become a leader and serve this Nation. What does the tax payer get for the $250k-$300k they paid for their education? They should absolutely serve their obligation just like every other honorable graduate of an academy.

More than just the expense to the taxpayer. They received precious nominations and appointments that two other well qualified applicants did not get.

If they are allowed to play, they should be required to serve in the reserves and to serve a deferred active duty tour beginning when they become inactive players or at age 35, whichever comes first. They should also be required to agree to an unlimited sponsorship contract for the Navy without compensation.

Let them be reservists. Let them play for the same reason we send officers to train with industry and to attend Harvard. Less about the enrichment opportunity for the individual, but more so demonstrate to the Civillian populous the great leaders our military is producing. It reinforces public trust in our professions, & in the macro is becomes low cost worldwide advertising.

We cry foul when our nation is disengaged by conflict our service members are involved and away from their families. We should more to touch base with mainstream America.
