Yes, because the USA/USAF O-4 rank is physically different than the USN/USMC. The images you showed are pictures of the actual ranks. O-1, O-2, and O-3 ranks are also slightly different for those different branches. The difference is subtle, so it's something that a lot of military web sites get wrong. For O-1 and O-2 ranks for example, the degree of beveling around the edges are different, as is the degree of curvature I believe.

WOW I have never noticed in the DOD pubs they all look identical. You spend 25 years and miss the weirdest stuff. http://www.defense.gov/About-DoD/Insignias/Officers.

LTC Yinon Weiss - Well it is a good thing I never bought a set of collar devices from an AF exchange, I would felt stupid when someone pointed out I had the wrong ones on. I think I would have noticed the Maj devices but I think the other ones I would not have noticed till someone pointed it out.

The Army AF leaves are a satin finish. The 01-03 bars with the Army /AF have a trapezoidal look. The Navy/MC versions look almost perfectly flat in appearance. The 0-3 bars that ten Navy/MC uses look like a perfect square where as the Army/AF versions look more like a railroad track were with cross members that connect the two bars.
