Did you get permission from your Chain to move off post with the understanding that you will maintain a barracks room? Do they have the address of your off post residence? Also, if you read AR 210-50 Section 3-36, I would say you are not in good standing of the regulation as how I understand the regulation.

As far as I can tell e-5 and below cant live off post we have e-5s off post but you can live off post if you talked to chain of command before signing a lease or rent I understand that's where I messed up. But my cheif knows I figured he would inform the rest what happened thanks for the reference. I really enjoy learning more that's why I use this site I just wish people would be a little more respectful. Thanks MSG (Join to see)

SPC (Join to see) - just because E-5 Joe Smith moved off post without authorization does NOT mean it is ok for every swinging E-5 to do so. did you follow up with your Chief to see if he informed the rest of your CoC? you can't always depend on your immediate supervisor to make those notifications.. make sure he did it or make them yourself

SPC (Join to see) - If there is a Statement of Non-Availability for barracks, then your command can write a memo authorizing you to move off post. If there is availability, you still need to request permission to move off post. Those NCOs that you state live off post either asked for permission and were granted or that there was non-availability and were given authority to move off base. I would highly recommend that you go to your Commander WITH your NCO Chain and explain the situation. If they tell you that you are a NO GO, then it would behoove you to pack your stuff and move back to the barracks. And move back with a quickness.

Despite AR 210-50, you live in the Barracks. You get mail at the barracks. You’ll be on barracks cleaning rosters. Etc. You simply sleep at your girlfriends house a lot.

No one is going to do bed checks. But of course, actions have consequences. Pushing the limits of regulations can often lead to pushback from the Army. And when push comes to shove, the Army usually finds a way to beat the soldier.

Best of luck.

SPC (Join to see) You moved off base without permission from your chain of command? I just read AR 210-50 Section 3-36, and agree with MSG (Join to see).

Could be different with the Army, but for us a Junior Marine could move off base if they submitted a move out form with the barracks manager. Here's the thing though, you will not rate BAH.

The common running theme here is to check with your chain of command and see what they say. If you were squared away you would have already asked your chain of command and we wouldn't be having this conversation. Remember always, always ask first. The worst that can happen is they say no, and don't get upset if you get an answer you don't like.

Say you were at your off base home and there was an all hands recall back to the office for some safety reason and your phone is dead, off, or not near you. They are going to first go check your barracks room, then they are going to blow up your phone, and then they will find out you've been maintaining an off base housing arrangement without updating your contact info and address so they know where to find you.
